The EmbedterLabs projects develop the capacity of urban practitioners for more synergistic urban planning for transformations towards sustainable and resilient urban areas through a novel Living Lab approach. This means that the outcomes of the EmbedterLabs project can be of value to a large number of cities in Europe, both in a social (i.e. supporting inclusivity) and environmental (i.e. reducing environmental impacts of mobility) sense. The Lab experiments are facilitated through a collaboration of academic, governmental and civil society partners, hence a multi-helix model. This implies that our project's activities and impact will benefit a broad range of urban stakeholders.
In particular, the implementation guidelines to orient labs and experiments to inform broader learning processes, and align laboratory insights with established policy mixes, will be of value to urban policy makers, Living Lab practitioners and private companies developing and implementing policies for transformation towards sustainable urban public space and infrastructure. The novel approach will lead to a better-aligned mix of policies supporting the uptake of sustainable innovation.
In addition to the practice-oriented implementation guidelines, the knowledge about 'what approach works, when attempting to support urban transformations?' – derived from the retrospective analysis and action research-, developed in such a way that it can be generalised, derived from the retrospective analysis and action research, will be widely disseminated. The results will address research questions of interest to basic as well as applied researchers in the domains of urban studies, sustainability science, urban governance, and multi-stakeholder experimentation & learning.
